Introducing Horst Glaesker

Dusseldorf based artist Horst Glasker is famous for his unique and innovative public art installations.  Horst is regarded as the founder of the Pattern Art movement, and his astounding artistic talent spans mediums including painting, music, sculpture, installations and architecture.

“I realize my art in the most diverse places: prison, church, hospital, university, job center, bank and shopping mall.
In my designs, I always respond to the situation at hand, the place, the architecture and their users.”

His Story

Horst Glasker was born in Herford, Germany in 1949.  In the 1960’s Horst apprenticed as a showcase designer and worked as a poster artist.  During those years Horst also worked in music through a dance combo with his four brothers, and in the 1970’s he went on to work with multiple rock bands and began creating sound sculptures.  Glasker studied at the Kunstakademie Dusseldorf from 1973-1979 with Lambert Maria Wintersberger, Gerhard Richter, and Karl Otto Gotz.

Glasker’s wide variety of public art installations can be visited across Germany.  He has been a visiting professor Kunstakademie Munster, Hochschule fur Bildende Kunste, Braunschweig.  He has also been a professor at the Kunsthochschule in Kassel and a guest lecturer at the Savannah College of Art and Design, Georgia, USA.  Horst currently lives and works in Dusseldorf.
