LIGHTHOUSES OF KNOWLEDGE Towers of Education & Light for the World
“Lighthouses of Knowledge” is a permanent art installation created by world-renowned public artist, Horst Glasker. The work is a colorful ornamentation of towers at the University Duisburg-Essen, Essen, Germany.
Glasker used a powder coating on the aluminum tower exteriors to color them in bright pastel stripes. His artwork celebrates humanity by infusing color into the public sphere that is so often a dull grey cement landscape.
“What is most important to me is the creative act, making a situation come alive. This process invariably relates to space, to time, and to rhythm.”
The school towers jump out from the sky backdrop like pastel rainbows standing upright.
Towers of Knowledge bring life to the area of otherwise drab university structures.
Glasker’s work draws out the music already present in architectural design, and expresses the music in color.
Towers of Knowledge improve upon the public sphere with brilliant life through color.
